The Kamchatka is one of the last places in the world with the completely uncontaminated nature, with a very low human presence (less than 300.000 inhabitants on the territories twice as large as Italy) with spectacular volcanos, gaysers, hundreds of rivers of various dimensions with clear waters, winding through immense woods and spectacular mountains.
The absence of human installments and roads conditions also the organization of the sport fishing and makes it all the more interesting. In the rivers of Kamchatka from June through October five different Salmon species enter from the Ocean, from the famous King Salmon that can reach 12-15 kilos to smaller but very frequent species such as Sckeye salmon, Chum Salmon Coho and Pink Salmon. It is to be considered that in the rivers there are also big quantities of Rainbow trout, Siberian trouts Dolly varden char and East siberian char and famous Siberian Grayling, very combative fish in industrial quantities.
The entire fishing is on “Catch and release” basis, apart from what is consumed on the spot. Considering that every fisherman will have the occasion to literally fish hundreds of fish a day, it would be a true sin to let die all that fish that cannot be consumed.
All the tours that we propose in Kamchatka are organized with rafts, from two to three fishermen and guide per every raft, that are carried by river tide. During the day the fishing is done from the raft or there will be intervals to fish from the best points on the river banks. Accommodation is in tents, two fishermen per every tent, which are transported along on the raft.
If you want to fish only a determined type of salmon you must know that the King Salmon is numerous from end of May through the first days of July, the best period from mid to end of June, for Pink and Chum Salmon a good period is July and August, while Silver salmon goes from half August to October. Trouts and graylings are always all right, from May through October.
Fishing techniques are fly fishing and spinning. The local fishermen also fish with artificial flies that can be purchased on the spot.
In order to reach some of the rivers one must use a helicopter service which increases the price of the program, while for the principal river Boljsaja (The Great River) the departure and gathering places can be reached by car. The programs below indicate where the use of the helicopter is needed and the hours of flight necessary to get to the specified river, so that every group can calculate the general expense according to the number of the participants.
The prices are made on the basis of minimum 5 maximum 8 fishermen per each group.
The River Boljsaja (The Great River): This river can be reached at the point of departure by rafts and the gathering place by car. The program: 1st day, departure by car from Petropavlovsk Kamchatski (or from the airport if the airplane arrives in the morning) in about 4 hours up to the embarkation spot, construction of the camp, supper and overnight. While the guides build the camp for the night and prepare the supper, the fishermen can make first attempts of fishing and set the fishing gear in order.
From 2nd to 6th day: Trip with rafts along the river with periodic intervals at the most suitable points for fishing, all day fishing on all the kinds of salmon, trouts and grayling. The quantity of harvested fish is enormous, every fisherman can fish tens and even hundreds of fish daily. It is also possible to encounter bears during the trip.
The evening of the sixth day the last camp is built with the last overnight in the nature.
7 th day, transfer by car to Petropavlovsk Kamchatski, visit to the thermal sources and bath along the road, hotel accommodation and farewell dinner.
8th day, transfer to the airport and end of program.
River Zupanova: This river is famous for the quantity of King Salmon in the period of 10-30 June and Silver Salmon from mid September to mid November. This river needs to be reached by helicopter for about 5 hours of flight total to and fro. The cost of the helicopter is around 1.500 USD per one hour of flight. This sum is to be divided among the participants. The 8 day program as above.
The rivers of the west of Kamchatka, Kolj, Pimta, Kolpakova: these rivers are virtually out of reach of human populations, with migrations of King salmon during June and Silver salmon in September-October. The quantity of salmon is considered to be the largest in the world. It takes 10 hours of flight by helicopter to reach these rivers to and fro. 8 day program.

Air fares up to Petropavlovsk Kamchatski (around 1000 €), hotel in Petropavlovsk (around 100 USD per day per person), Russian visa (it is to be applied for in a Russian Consulate on the basis of an invitation and costs around 150 €), drinks and tips.
