Siberian Snow Sheep inhabit the mountains in the North of Siberia from the Uralis to Kamchatka. There are 5 to 7 species according to the scientific classification or according to the hunting classification promoted by the Safari Club International. Mouflons are very big and there are lots of similarities among them, with few variations in the color of the fur and in the horn and body dimensions. In the enormous region of East Siberia on the Okhotsk sea, there are two mouflon species, Okhotsk and Magadan sheep. Such a rigid climate with temperatures that for 3 – 4 months go below 30°C are a direct cause of the low density of animal population so that hunting consists in incessant climbing trying to spot the animals. Once spotted, hunters try to approach them to the shooting distance, which is not easy at all, since the grounds are fully open. Accommodation is in tents without services, hunters must bring their own sleeping bags. The hunting area can be reached only by helicopter, which further complicates the hunt due to frequent bad weather conditions. |
