AREA: the mountains in the North of Siberia
Siberian Snow Sheep inhabit the mountains in the North of Siberia from the Uralis to Kamchatka. There are 5 to 7 species according to the scientific classification or according to the hunting classification promoted by the Safari Club International. Mouflons are very big and there are lots of similarities among them, with few variations in the color of the fur and in the horn and body dimensions.
In the area of Okhotsk, along the coasts of the Sea of Okhotsk, the famous Okhotsk Sheep can be encountered and is the least known and least hunted species of all the Siberian sheep.
The hunt is done in the low mountains rising on the side of the sea reachable by helicopter. Having spotted the animals, the hunter tries to approach them at the shooting distance, which is not easy at all, considering that the grounds are completely open.
The accommodation is in the tent camp without services, the hunters must bring their own sleeping bags. The hunting area can be reached only by helicopter. Bear, elk and caribou can be often seen on the rivers full of salmon. |
